9/11 Memorial Blood Drive

This year’s annual blood drive actually falls on 9/11. Past member Jerry Cummings started this annual event in 2002 as a tribute to those who perished on that fateful day in 2001. Always in conjunction with the American Red Cross, our club has sponsored blood drives each year since. We moved to the Orchard City Banquet Hall of the Campbell Community Center on Winchester Blvd. and Campbell Avenue.

To sign up to donate blood, go to www.redcrossblood.org and search for zip code 95008 and then the date of 9/11. Then select your appointment from the list of times available.

Relay 4 Life 2026!

President Tinling Choong was joined by members Jim Morelan (and Millie!) and John Shannon at this year’s ACS Relay 4 Life at the track/field at Campbell Community Center. As in the past, Campbell Rotary provides a healthy brunch for the Cancer Survivors and their caretakers after they complete the initial lap at 10:00 A.M. The walkers enjoyed the muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt and fruit juices that we provided.

Happy New (Rotary) Year

The Rotary Year 2026-27 was off to a great start at Monday’s meeting! President Tinling provided her first of 3 “bursts” of information about the coming year and got us very excited! She also brought in a long time friend and awesome speaker, May Lee, who wowed the members with her stories, photos and videos of life in Antarctica!! We also appreciated visits from the incoming Presidents of the Rotary Clubs of Los Gatos and Saratoga, Rochelle Lopp and Terrie Creamer!

Sad News

We lost a giant of a man this past week. Jerry Cummings was a long time member of the Rotary Club of Campbell. He was wise, kind, generous, funny and always available to lend a hand or lead a cause. In the photo below, when the old Rotary sign fell off of the Welcome to Campbell sign on Camden Ave., it was Jerry who bough a new Rotary wheel and installed it. He was always there when we needed him and he will be greatly missed. Jerry Cummings (1931-2026), Rest in Peace.

Supporting Sunnyvale Sunrise Club

On May 30th, our member, John Shannon, attended a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Sunnyvale Sunrise. It was the second of three Texas Hold ‘em Tournaments that the Sunnyvale Sunrise Club puts on to raise money for high school scholarships and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Academy) sponsorships for area students. Held at Holders Country In in downtown Los Altos, the event brought in over 20 good natured poker players from throughout Santa Clara County. Our guy, John, brought home the 3rd place award, presented here by Jim W, organizer of the event.
