Projects

These are just a few of the projects supported by our members as volunteers, donors, and advocates. We’re especially proud to have a broad and lasting impact with local youth.

Enterprise Leadership Conference (ELC)

Campbell Rotary collaborates with seven sister clubs in the West Valley area on an annual, three-day, in-depth business leadership training for high school juniors. Students from local high schools are taken to a retreat-style conference center (e.g. Asilomar in Pacific Grove), placed in teams of six (three boys and three girls) and tasked with developing a business plan for a brand new product or service. Their final “elevator pitches” are judged by business professionals from our clubs. Thanks are due to Bill Highley and Bill Ellington for their leadership on this project.

Backpacks for Youth

Every August, Campbell Rotary coordinates with Uplift Family Services, our lunch hosts, to purchase and assemble backpacks full of back-to-school supplies for local at-risk youth served by Uplift. This year, our members and volunteers assembled 400 backpacks for elementary, middle, and high school students. This project has been organized for the past two years by our Youth Services Co-Chair, Stella Ralph.

Dinner Service at the HomeFirst Shelter

On the second Tuesday of each month, Campbell Rotarians volunteer to serve dinner for 100-200 of our unhoused neighbors at the HomeFirst Boccardo Reception Center in San José. Longtime member and Programs Co-Chair, Jerry Cummings, leads this effort.

Relay for Life

Every summer, Campbell Rotarians volunteer to cook and serve breakfast for survivors walking in the Relay for Life at Campbell Community Center. Relay for Life is a nationwide fundraising initiative to support cancer research and treatment. Thanks are due to club members Bob Carlson and Jimmy Zien for their annual organizing efforts, and former President Janine Payton for starting this tradition.
