Ethics in Business Awards

The Rotary Club of Campbell/San José West is pleased to announce the return of our annual Ethics in Business Awards. Any Rotarian or member of our community may submit a nomination.

The nomination period is currently open through February 28, 2018. Nominations will be accepted via webform, email, or on paper nomination forms made available on request.

Scope

Nominees must be businesses (sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation) with an active presence in Campbell and/or West San José, generally within the following postal codes:

  • 95008 (Campbell)
  • 95117 (San Tomas)
  • 95118 (South Willow Glen)
  • 95124 (Cambrian Park)
  • 95125 (Willow Glen)
  • 95126 (Rose Garden)
  • 95128 (Valley Fair/Santana Row)
  • 95129 (West San José)
  • 95130 (County pocket)

Criteria

The Ethics in Business Awards are intended to celebrate local businesses that exemplify Rotary’s Four Way Test:

Is it the truth? (Honesty)

  • Does the business represent its product or service clearly and accurately?
  • Does it make every reasonable effort to fulfill the letter and spirit of its commitments?
  • Is the business proactive in correcting mistakes and/or misunderstandings?

Is it fair to all concerned? (Justice)

  • Does the business abide by all laws, regulations, and best practices related to its industry?
  • Does the business have a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or other protected class?
  • Does the business value the opinions of its clients, customers, and employees?

Will it build goodwill and better friendships? (Community)

  • Does the business maintain an active presence in local community-based organizations?
  • Does the business provide opportunities for employees to contribute to the welfare of the community through participation in local CBOs and service projects?
  • Does the business provide a program to match charitable contributions of its employees?

Is it beneficial to all concerned? (Betterment)

  • Does the business provide good value to its clients and/or customers?
  • Does the business demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement of its products and/or services?
  • Does the business encourage its employees to develop skills that will help them advance in their professional lives and provide resources for them to do so?

Selection

An Awards Subcommittee, appointed by the Campbell Rotary Board of Directors, will review all nominations and rank them according to the Criteria defined in these guidelines, with 0-10 points awarded for each of the Four Way Test questions (40 total possible points).

Based on the final ranking, the Subcommittee may choose 1-2 businesses to receive the Ethical Business(es) of the Year Award, provided that each of these businesses received more than 30 total points.

Remaining nominees meeting a basic standard of 30 points will be awarded the Recognition of Ethical Business Practices.

Recognition

Winner(s) of the Ethical Business of the Year (EBOY) Award will receive a plaque to display at their business recognizing the award.

Winners of the EBOY shall also be recognized with:

  • A dedicated page on the Campbell Rotary website;
  • An announcement in a Campbell Rotary e-newsletter and media release;
  • A ceremony at a Campbell Rotary meeting;
  • Free booth space at Campbell Rotary’s Orchard City Chili Cookoff; and
  • A stage announcement at the Chili Cookoff.

Campbell Rotary will maintain a list of all annual winners on their website, and members shall encourage their friends, colleagues, neighbors, and families to frequent these businesses.
