Surrealism, Magic, and Reality

Today’s speaker stretched our minds like many of our fantastic weekly speakers.

Professional magician and inspirational speaker Jordan Wright engaged our minds on the topic of “surrealism” the bounds of reality and thought. Jordan blended magic and artwork with a bit of philosophy, and entertained us with his showmanship.

Along the way, he discussed the concept of business innovation, including his “3Ps of Innovation” … Products, Process, and People. He encouraged us to inspire innovation by practicing his concept of “Art Alchemy.”

Partners in Service: Guatemala

Every year, District 5170 hosts Rotarians from across the globe to highlight our “Partners in Service” program. This year, we welcome Julio Grazioso from Guatemala. Julio is Past President of Rotary Club Rotario Guatemala Vista Hermosa, and is currently Assistant District Governor for District 4250 (Belize, Honduras, and Guatemala).

He told us about Guatemala, including historical and cultural details. Guatemala is the heart of the ancient Mayan Empire, with a proud cultural heritage. But unfortunately, one-sixth of all Guatemalan children live below the poverty line.

Julio discussed many projects in Guatemala including Bridges to Prosperity, Faces of Hope (similar to Rotoplast), and Rotary International World Peace Fellowships, medical equipment for Hospital Westmont Bethel, and water purification from Lake Atitlan.
