We heard from Donna Baranski-Walker and Monica Quinn from the non-profit “Rebuilding Alliance,” which works to build political and social alliances in support of rebuilding efforts in areas of war and occupation, most prominenty in the West Bank and Gaza.
Coincidentally, Donna is the current President of the Rotary Club of Woodside/Portola Valley (RI District 5150).
One of our club’s fine traditions is the expectation that traveling Rotarians bring back a souvenir to share with our club. Past RotaryCSJw President David Keller and his family recently visited Roseburg, Oregon, for Thanksgiving, and had the chance to visit the Umpqua Valley Festival of Lights, sponsored by the local Rotary Club.
Read all about it at David’s “RotaryDad” weblog …
I hope everyone is doing well and you are all preparing for a nice Thanksgiving dinner. I will be spending the day tomorrow with a number of my relatives up in Stockton…eating way too much good food!
I would like to remind everyone that the Foundation Raffle is going to be held at the December 6th district cabinet meeting. If you made a pledge to the foundation but have not yet written a check, we will need it by the next meeting (November 28) if you want to submit your tickets for the raffle.
Please bring your check next week or mail it along with your tickets to Bill Highley.
So far, we have collected roughly $6,000 for the foundation…a great start, but well short of our goal. Thank you to all of you who have already submitted your contribution.
Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the long weekend.
Yours in Rotary,
Derek Fujikawa

As we near the final weeks of our effort to encourage donations to The Rotary Foundation (TRF), Bill Highley presented a brief update of our current status. We are more than half-way toward our goal, with several club members still holding on to their raffle tickets.
Please consider becoming a “Double-Sustainer” with an annual gift of at least $200, or really go nuts and become a “Paul Harris Fellow,” with a lifetime giving total of $1000. Also, with every donation of $20, your name can be added to the famous “Foundation Raffle,” with winners to be drawn in early December.
In June 2006, Pete Constant was elected outright in the primary to represent District 1 on the San Jose City Council.
When his term begins in January, Constant will be bringing experiences from his prior career in law enforcement, his current family life, and his extensive small business success. Today, he discussed his perspetive on issues important to San Jose, including open government, fiscal responsibility, support of community non-profits, and neighborhood identity in District 1.
2006-07 Club President Derek Fujikawa is making the rounds of the media, celebrating his ascension to the leadership of RotaryCSJw. He was featured in the November 8 edition of the Willow Glen Resident:
Fujikawa takes Rotary Club helm, goal to add members
By Laura Rheinheimer
Echoing the motto of the Campbell, West San Jose Rotary Club, newly elected president Derek Fujikawa hopes to “lead the way.” …
This month, two Rotary International dignitaries from Turkey and India visited the group to talk about possible collaborations, such as funding the Rosemary school project, and Fujikawa sees a potential for similar events in the future.
Another of Fujikawa’s goals is to increase membership in the Campbell, West San Jose chapter. He wants to recruit a dozen new members to augment the club’s existing 38 members by the end of his term in June.
Now that Derek’s big membership goal is in print, it’s time to get busy. Try to invite a friend to this week’s meeting!
As we announced at our November 7 meeting, our club will participate again with the EMQ Holiday Giving Program. More information will be out shortly!
