On January 18, we welcomed Bob Kass, the Director of Public Works and Interim City Manager for the City of Campbell. Bob discussed several public and private projects currently underway in Campbell, including new townhome developments (Water Tower and Fung Lum), a new suite hotel east of downtown, shopping center facade improvements, park improvements, and the VTA Vasona project.

With appropriate remorse, Bob declined to support a casino within the city limits of Campbell, and he deftly avoided our repeated membership overtures. :-)

Rotary in India

San Jose Rotarian Ramesh Hariharan spoke to our club today about the ongoing collaborative programs between the San Jose Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Karaikal, India.

The recent Tsunami disaster in south Asia has highlighted the valuable work that Rotary Clubs perform across the world. Since 2001, the SJ Rotary Club has sponsored a Rotoplast trip, purchased Indian-made wheelchairs, and donated hand-powered tricycles to people in need in Karaikal. Because of this ongoing relationship, the two clubs are now discussing new ways to help the citizens of India, with long-range solutions that address needs of the people affected by the Tsunami.

The San Jose club also maintains relationships with clubs in Paraguay, Thailand, and Venezuela.
